Planning a trip from Barcelona to Port Aventura means choosing between public transport and a vehicle of your own. The facts below come from the park's website and from Plana's, which we opened in October 2026. We do not quote private coach prices, because companies set them by date, hours and kilometres, and we found no official tariff to cite.

Getting to PortAventura from Barcelona
By train, the park says Rodalies de Catalunya lines R-17 and RT2 stop at PortAventura World. It adds that for trips from Catalonia, the round-trip train ticket is free with your park ticket, and that rail works between Garraf and Sitges may affect the service, with an alternative transport plan published by Rodalies. Renfe timetables and packages are on the Renfe leisure site the park links to.
If you arrive by high-speed train at the Camp de Tarragona station, the park lists Plana line L4, a taxi rank outside the station, or car hire.
A sensible plan for a family:
- Check the Rodalies service for your date, including any rail works.
- Buy your park ticket first, since the rail benefit depends on it.
- Leave a margin for the way back, as the last train matters more than the first.
- If you have prams, suitcases or a large party, compare with a private transfer.
For line status, see Rodalies de Catalunya, whose timetable section shows the stops for each line.
Barcelona airport to PortAventura
The resort says it is about one hour from any terminal at El Prat. From the airport the park lists a Plana bus, a taxi or car hire (Avis, OK Mobility and Hertz are named).
Plana's own website shows airport transfers from T1 and T2 to Tarragona, La Pineda, Salou and Cambrils, with fares from 15.95 euros one way and 28.95 euros return, a 30 kg bag included, and a stop at the PortAventura hotels. Its booking page showed a "temporarily out of service" notice when we looked, and it does not publish a timetable, so check before you plan on it. If you need to move between the airport and the city before or after the park, our guides to the Aerobús and to airport transfers in Barcelona explain the options.
For city pick-ups, the Plana website lists stops at Plaça Espanya, Passeig de Gràcia 36 and Maria Cristina (Av. Diagonal), but does not say which stop pairs with which destination.
Other bus options from Barcelona to PortAventura
The park mentions two more bus options: Julià Travel from Barcelona and Moventis from the Costa Brava. It says Julià Travel offers bus and ticket packages with a 10% discount, and that Moventis sells transport and admission together, with a Thursday mentioned. We have not opened those operators' own timetables, so we give no times or fares for them.
If you arrive in Barcelona by long-distance coach and want to connect, our guide to Barcelona's bus stations explains which station serves which service. For cruise passengers planning a day at the park, see the guide to the cruise port transfer.
When is a private coach to PortAventura worth it?
A private coach or minibus is worth it from about eight people, or whenever you want one pick-up point and a fixed return time. On a scheduled service you pay per seat; with a private vehicle you pay for the vehicle, the hours and the kilometres, shared among the group.
We see it most with:
- School and club trips, where one adult counts heads at one door.
- Family reunions and birthdays, with strollers, coolers and gift bags.
- Company days and incentive trips, with a single collection point.
- Groups from cruise ships or hotels who want a timed round trip.
Companies in our directory list these trip types on their websites. See minibus hire in Barcelona for smaller parties and corporate and event transport for company days.
What size of vehicle does your group need?
Passengers plus luggage and gear decide the size. Count the seats and leave the back rows for bags.

Which coach companies could you ask?
These are the best-reviewed companies in our Barcelona list. We have not checked which of them run to PortAventura, so ask in your quote.
- Autocares Autocorb, in Barcelona, has 4.8 stars from 303 reviews. Its website says it has operated since 1922 and lists coaches of 28 to 72 seats.
- Autocares Vista Bus has 5 stars from 103 reviews and, on its website, vehicles of 6 to 60 seats and an English version.
- Soler bus SL, in Sant Boi de Llobregat, has 5 stars from 71 reviews and is shown open 24 hours.
- Iglesias Bus, in Sant Quirze del Vallès, has 5 stars from 58 reviews and lists vehicles of 15 to 65 seats.
Our method is explained in how we rank.
How do you plan a group day at PortAventura from Barcelona?
Plan backwards from the time the group must be back in Barcelona, then fix the pick-up time and the number of waiting hours. The park's own pages cover opening times and tickets, so start there, and treat the coach as the fixed frame around the day.
A simple method we suggest to organisers:
- Check the park's opening hours for your date on its official website, and note the closing time.
- Add the journey back, using the resort's own statement that it is about one hour from El Prat as a rough guide only, and ask the coach company for its own estimate with traffic.
- Decide whether the driver waits at the park or returns later. Waiting is billed by the hour, while a second trip adds kilometres.
- Agree one meeting point inside the car park and a phone number for the driver, so a late party is not left behind.
- Share the plan with the group the day before, including the exact bus bay and departure time.
A school or youth group should also ask the company for the number of seat belts, the licence for school transport if it applies, and the names of the accompanying adults to be on the booking. For a company day, a corporate transport company can usually add a second vehicle or a morning shuttle between a hotel and the park.
Is it better to go by train, bus or coach?
The train is the cheapest choice for a few travellers, the bus suits people landing at the airport, and a coach suits any group that wants to arrive together. The right answer changes with group size, luggage and how fixed your return time is.
| Situation |
Our pick |
Why |
| Two adults, no luggage |
Rodalies train |
The park says the stop is on the line and a rail benefit exists from Catalonia |
| Family landing at El Prat |
Plana bus or taxi |
The park lists both for airport arrivals |
| Ten friends with a fixed return |
Minibus |
One address, one time, shared cost |
| Class of 50 pupils |
Full-size coach |
Everyone arrives together with supervision |
If the table does not settle it, ask two or three companies for a quote and compare the totals with the cost of individual tickets for everyone in the group.
What should you ask before you book?
Get the inclusions, the hours and the extras in writing.
- Same-day return, or an overnight stay for the driver?
- Waiting hours for the park day, and what an extra hour costs.
- Tolls, parking and night or holiday surcharges.
- A second driver if the day is long.
- The company's passenger transport licence and insurance.
- Seat belts, air conditioning and wheelchair access if needed.
On driving time, the European Commission's page on driving time and rest periods states a daily limit of nine hours of driving (ten twice a week) and a 45 minute break after four and a half hours. A park day with an evening return usually fits one driver, but ask.
What affects the price, and how do you get quotes?
Seats, hours, distance, date and waiting time drive the price. A minibus costs less than a coach but more per head if half empty. School holidays and weekends cost more than a quiet weekday. For a full breakdown, read our guide to coach hire prices.
Fill in the quote form with your date, group size, pick-up point and the hours you plan to stay. It goes to up to three companies, who answer with a fixed offer. Mention luggage, the return time and any accessibility needs, then compare what each quote includes, not only the total.
Timetables, fares and rail works change. We checked this page against the PortAventura and Plana websites in October 2026 and will review it each season.
